Man what a rough couple of weeks. After fighting with two Dell PowerEdge 2650s and a PowerVault 220S configured as a clustered file server, we finally had to give in a break the cluster today. Almost a year ago, we installed the hardware and configured the two servers as a clustered file and print server [...]
Sorry for the long time with no postings. We’ve been having major server problems at work with our clusterd file servers, that has kept me really busy. We’ve also been struggling to migrate a couple more users to Exchange (but like everything else it was taking 10x as much effort and time as we had [...]
It’s a bit disconcerting how clever humans are at reading messages:
Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, olny taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pcleas. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit [...]
What a day! our main clustered fileservers at the office up and died on us today. These two servers are the core of business operations, and they were down from about 9:15 AM until 8:00 PM. We were able to keep them up for a maybe a total of an hour during that time. Everything [...]
I chipped one of my teeth about a week ago. I go in tomorrow afternoon to have it fixed. Hopefully it will be a quick thing.
Update
The dentist looked at the tooth (a molar) and could barely see anything, so he decided not to do anything. He said, “No charge.”
The time has finally come to say goodbye to my trusty Apple PowerMac 7100/80AV. I’ve had this Mac for too many years, but the last couple it has resided in the back of my closet. We need the space, so tonight I’m cleaning it up so that the Salvation Army can come and pick [...]
We finally got a picture of the bunk beds as well as the bedding that we thinking about getting. While we liked the look of the 2 over 3 dresser, we knew that Ellie would need more storage space so we opted for the 5 drawer dresser. We also like the book case, but is [...]
When I used to commute over an hour each way to work, I would listen to books on tape (the unabridged variety). I listened to a number of Anne McCaffrey’s Pern books. Although it has been a couple of years since I last read/listened to one, I really enjoyed this easy book. I was a [...]
I finally got my Whitebox Linux install completed on my Sony Vaio Z505R. This is the laptop I mentioned in this post. The install went fine. I had to use the install via FTP method, because of the “funky” hardware in this laptop wouldn’t work with a CD based install. However, once I booted [...]
We finally ordered new furniture for Ellie’s bed room. After a lot of looking and testing, we finally decided on the Crystal Lake set from Vermont Precision. We ordered a bunk bed and 5 drawer dresser in white. It could arrive as soon as 2 weeks or take as long as 14. We will put [...]
I’m finally a Microsoft Exchange users. After a couple of aborted attempts at migrating my mail from GroupWise to Exchange were were finally able to make it happen. We continue to refine our procedure for migrating users, but it is going to be nightmare. I’ll post an update when we get the process refined a [...]
He is risen indeed! Happy Easter.
We had a neighborhood party at our house today (everyone just left). They were all of Ellie’s (and our friends) from the neighborhood. During last summer and fall we would let the kids play outside, while we’d have pot luck suppers. When the hurricane hit and we were without power for 2 days we all [...]
What I am listening to
0 Comments Published by kbn 4 years, 3 months ago in Music and Video and TechieWhile I am not a big music listener, I do from time to time listen to music at work and at home while I am on the computer. Being an Apple fan, I’m partial to all things Apple. I use iTunes for listening to my music. I just ran across a plug-in for iTunes that [...]
I finally finished painting the repair work in the kitchen from our project in February. I had painted the walls a couple of weeks ago, but I never got the spots on the ceiling painted. I just finished that task, and can now start putting things back! Yeah!
