I’ve added a new feature to the site today, Comment Subscription. This plugin allows you to get email notifications when comments are left on a post after your own. I basically installed this for Keith and Mike so that they can get emails when I respond to their comments.
When submitting a comment you have the [...]
I ordered my iMac G5 today from CDW. They are supposed to get a shipment of 600 units from Apple in 3-4 days. There are about 250 machines currently on back order a head of me. So if things go well, I should have the new system in about 2 weeks.
In an effort to help combat spam, I’ve joined Project Honey Pot.
Project Honey Pot is the first and only distributed system for identifying spammers and the spambots they use to scrape addresses from your website. Using the Project Honey Pot system you can install addresses that are custom-tagged to the time and IP address [...]
I gave a presentation at work last week, and one of the things that I talked about was the spam filtering that we provide. We use a great open source product called SpamAssassin. I installed it almost 2 years ago firm wide, and since then have monitored it on a daily basis.
Currently 79% of [...]
I can’t wait to see my family. Fern is trying to get back in time to take Ellie to her pre-school class. I pray that they have a safe drive, and I will see them tomorrow after work. I miss you guys!
Yesterday morning I had a harrowing moment. My typical routine when I get home from work is put my keys, phone, watch and wallet on top of the refrigerator. Well, on Thursday for some reason, I didn’t do that when I got home. I put everything on the dining room table, with the intention of [...]
Yesterday Fern and the girls left for a 6 day visit to both families in PA and Ohio. That means that I at home with the boys (our cats) and the two hermit crabs (I’m not sure what gender they are). I know that Ellie is having a lot fun (we’ve already talked a couple [...]
Mike Larson announced today that he has officially joined the ranks of the blogging community. Welcome!
From time to time I’ve had the opportunity to provide Mike with some technical assistance as he migrated to a Linux solution, and he gave me a nod in his announcement. Mike is a computer geek and programmer (yes [...]
Ever since I accidentally deleted my old weblog database I have been looking at ways to back up my system. The first thing that I did was get some software to backup my databases. I used the Automatic MySQL Backup script, it does a daily backup of all of my databases. It then rotates them [...]
We’re back online again. The cable modem that I ordered from Deals by Jerry arrived today. I plugged it in as soon as I got home, placed the call to Comast and after about 20 minutes I had everything operational again.
It is so nice to be able to access the net again from home. [...]
Well, my cable modem is down in flames. I redid the power cords last night, and it worked for quite a while so I thought that I was good again. But this morning it was down again (different lights this time). So reset it again, it worked until I got into the office and tried [...]
Fern and I celebrate our 13 year anniversary today. It has been a wonderful, fun, crazy, life changing, stressful, learning, growing, wacky, amazing 13 years.
Just in case you were wondering the traditional 13 year anniversary gift is lace, and the modern gift is textiles/furs. Fern and I are getting shelves from IKEA for each other.
If you are reading this then you are lucky. I’m having problems with my cable modem. It keeps powercycling itself. I can’t seem to figure out why, so I have ordered a new unit. It should arrive in a few days (hopefully before the weekend), but in the meantime access to the site will be [...]
Hold the ball, drop the ball, pick some apples (munch, munch, munch), pick some flowers, put them in the basket, and let them fall.
Hold the ball (bring arms around in front), drop the ball (bring arms back around), pick some apples (raise your right arm above your head), pick some flowers (bring you left [...]
